9 Sales Promotion Ideas for Your Insurance Brokerage

2023-02-14

With enterprise corporations like Progressive, Allstate, and Geico creating some of the most unique and creative marketing efforts to date, it’s only natural that other insurers will want to keep up. If you’re in the insurance business, you can take inspiration from these and other promotional ideas to help build your business and increase your client base. Once your promotions are live, and leads come rolling in, you can outsource your sales outreach to get the leads called quicker.

Although there are no two strategies that will be the same, the list below can help you get started on your own campaign to build a bigger client base and grow your insurance brokerage

1. Referral programs are a must

In the business of insurance, recommendations and referrals go a long way. Creating a referral program will enable you to generate great leads with minimal effort—your customers will do it for you when you’re good at what you do. Of course, if you incentivize those referrals, it could work in your favor. Consider offering discounts or even promotional gifts when people refer someone to you, and make sure that both parties are given an incentive—this is the reason why most referral programs fail. They only reward the referrer. Make sure everyone is acknowledged.

2. Consider incentives for reviews, too

In the same vein, you can get a lot of promotion from client reviews. Again, they will likely happen organically here and there. However, you can get them more quickly if you incentivize them. It doesn’t have to be a huge incentive. A gift with a purchase or a small discount could work well here, too. Whatever you do, make sure it’s valuable to your audience. You might even try some A/B testing with a few different incentive options to figure out what works best.

3. Check your local SEO

In the business of insurance, your local audience can be valuable. This is a good time to brush up your business listings, check out your local SEO on your website, and make sure that your business listings give people the information that they need and make it easy to connect with your brokerage. Even if you’re working in a region or an entire state, target local markets to get a better spread in your SEO marketing.

4. Use social media to promote your business

Social media is a must. It’s no longer good enough to have a profile on the sites, either. You have to get interactive. Look at how some of the top brands in the world are keeping people entertained with their Twitter wars. It’s hard proof that social works. You shouldn’t just be selling things or promoting insurance sales, either. Share information, give people resources and offer value in other ways. The insurance will sell itself.

You could even go as far as creating a fun TikTok showcasing funny insurance “do’s and don’ts” with clips of music to get people’s attention and show them that you’re hip to their trends.

5. Create helpful videos and blog content for visitors

In the insurance world, being an authoritative resource is more valuable than you might realize. Insurance is complex and daunting to most people, so if you can help them understand it, you will automatically win their affection (and their business). You should start a blog and a YouTube channel where you post informative content, helpful resources, and so forth. You can even create a welcome video of your insurance brokerage and employees so that people can get a feel for who you are and what you do before they commit.

6. Offer incentives for website or social referrals

Want to build your customer base and your digital presence? Consider offering discounts or promotions for people who find you through your website or social media profiles. For example, offer new home buyers a 10% discount on their down-payment when they mention your hashtag “#SafeHomeHappyHome” from your campaign to promote the importance and value of home insurance and keeping your home in good condition.

7. Attend trade shows and expos

When you’re running a local brokerage, networking with your neighbors, both personal and professional, is a great way to promote your business. Attend local home shows, business expos, and other trade shows and events where you can promote your business, network, and more. You can even offer incentives and discounts for people who convert as a result of seeing you at an event to provide them with an exclusive deal.

8. Make it all mobile

Today’s consumer is always on the go. The majority of people searching for professional services like insurance are doing so from a smart device—be it their phone or tablet, they’re looking for quick, easy answers and if you don’t have them, they’ll find someone who does. Therefore, you need to make sure that your website is optimized for mobile devices and that your online directory listings are spot-on in all ways. Make sure that you’re linked directly to Google Maps and other services that can help people find you, too.

If you’ve got the means, you could even consider creating a mobile app that clients can use to access their policies and make payments, giving them even more convenience.
